Vice Adm Bedi to head Southern Naval Command

Kochi, July 27: Vice-Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi will take over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command here on July 31 from SCS Bangara, who will be retiring from Naval service.

Prior to this appointment, VAdm Bedi was the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at the Naval Headquarters, an official release said here today.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, VAdm J S Bedi was commissioned in July 1969 and specialized in communication and electronic warfare.

He has the distinction of commanding ships of various sizes beginning with the command of seaward defence boat 'Atul' and subsequently the ocean going minesweeper 'Bedi,' Leander class frigate 'Udayagiri,' guided missile destroyer 'Ranvir,' the aircraft carrier 'Viraat' and finally the Western Fleet.

He was officer-in-charge of the Naval Signal School, Kochi, and the College of Naval Warfare (CNW). He also commanded the Naval Academy at Goa and was Director of Naval Plans at Naval Head Quarters.

He is a recipient of the prestigious Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for meritorious and distinguished service.
