Two-years' RI to man for assaulting witness

New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) A city court today sentenced a 25 year-old-man to two years' imprisonment for assaulting a witness in the court one year ago.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Sanjay Bansal held Mukesh guilty of assaulting one Ravinder Solanki who was testifying against him and sentenced him to two years' imprisonment.

He had also threatened to kill Solanki.

''The witness must be given due protection so that they do not fear in coming to court and give evidence. It is also equally important that whoever threatens the witness must be dealt with,'' the order said.

Mukesh was convicted under sections 228 (Interruption to a public servant sitting in any stage of a judicial proceeding), 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
