Substantial increase in intake of Technical Institutions/ITIs

New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has approved a proposal to increase seats in various technical institutions and ITIs from this academic year.

The decision was taken in third meeting of State Vocational Education Board presided by her last evening, a statement said today.

This would go a long way in encouraging students to opt for vocational courses and overcome acute admission problem in Delhi, she said and added that in all 1,600 seats would be added for the students of Delhi.

The decision comes on a proposal submitted by the Directorate of Technical Education and Training.

Present intake of 2,550 in B Tech course had been increased to 3,210 whereas intake of MBA course had been increased from 480 to 720.

Two hundred forty seats of B Tech course had been increased in Guru Teg Bahadur Institute Of Technology, 180 in Maharaja Suraj Mal Institute of Technology, 120 in Northern India Engineering College, 60 in Ambedkar Institute of Technology and 30 each in Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology and National Power Training Institute.

Sixty seats each of MBA had been increased in Delhi Institute of Advance Studies, Rukmani Devi Institute of Advance Studies, Delhi School of Professional Studies and Research and Northern India Engineering College.

In addition, a proposal to increase 280 seats in Netaji Subhas Institute of technology was under active consideration.

Around 700 vocational training seats had also been increased in ten ITIs.

The seats had been increased in vocational training courses of Digital Photography, Computer Hardware and Networking, Commercial Art, Fashion Designing, Secretary Practice, Hair and Skin Care, Textile Designing, Cookery Catering and Home Management, DTP and Computer Operator and Programming Assistant.
