Re strong by 20 paise, closes at Rs 46.61/USD

Mumbai, Jul 27: The rupee today grew strong by twenty paise to close at Rs 46.61 per US dollar as compared to the previous close of Rs 46.80 per USD, said a trader in the money market.

The domestic currency earlier opened at Rs 46.69/70 per USD and in the mid-morning session traded at 46.65/67 per USD.

RBI today fixed the reference rate at Rs 46.64 per USD as compared to the previous rate of 46.85 per USD.

The six-month forward premia was up at 1.12 per cent and the one year forward premia was also up at 1.18 per cent.

However, the rupee could not perform well against other currencies. It was down against Euro at Rs 59.34 (58.85), against Pound Sterling at Rs 86.75 (86.02) and against Yen at Rs 40.36 (40.00).
