Prof Rao, 4 others honoured with Thompson awards

Bangalore, July 27 (UNI) Noted scientist in solid state and materials chemistry C N R Rao is among the five eminent professors presented with the prestigious Thompson Citation Laureate Award today.

The awards, part of Thomson's India Research Day activity, were bestowed in recognition of groundbreaking and influential contribution to and accomplishments in the field of research and development worldwide, Thompson Corporation Executive Vice President Keith MacGregor said after presenting the awards.

Prof Rao was chosen for the award for his significant contributions in the field of material science, chemistry and physics.

The other awardees were Prof Kalyanmoy Deb of IIT Kanpur for IT, Prof Gautam R Desiraju, University of Hyderabad, for chemistry, Prof Ashok Pandey, Deputy Director of CSIR and Head of Biotechnology Division of RRL, CSIR, Thiruvananthapuram, for biotechnology and bio chemistry and Prof Ashoke Sen of Harish Chandra Research Institute, UP, for physics.

Mr MacGregor said the eminent researchers had been honoured for achieving latest technological, pharmaceutical and scientific breakthroughs, making a significant contribution to the Indian and Global research community.
