Prem Singh bats for Bhatti Mines residents

New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) Delhi Assembly Speaker Prem Singh has written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi requesting her to instruct Delhi government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi not to demolish colonies like Sanjay Colony and Indira Nagar situated at Bhatti Mines area of South Delhi.

Displacing people residing in such colonies, who mostly belonged to SC/OBC community and other weaker sections of society, would send a wrong message, he said.

Late Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi had laid the foundation stone of the colonies in 1976 and the people living there, including those who migrated to India after 1947, were given 'pattas' of the land under the 20 Point Programme in 1982 by Mr Prem Singh, who was then the Minister of Development (Executive Councillor Development).

The Speaker sought that injustice should not be done to these people and the demolition notices served on them should be immediately withdrawn.
