Oldman hacked to death on charges of practising sorcery
Kendrapada, July 27 (UNI) A 47-year-old man was hacked to death by his neighbour on the suspicion of practising witchcraft against his family.
Police said one Ajaya Nayak, a resident of Nilikanth under the Choudakulat outpost of Pattamundai police station, was hacked to death by Surendra Mohanty, who suspected that his family members had been suffering from various ailments because of sorcery by Nayak.
Surendra's son and wife had been suffering from illness for more than one year. Perturbed over their long illness, Surendra held Ajaya's black magic responsible for the illness.
Police said, though Ajaya tried to convince Surendra that he was not responsible for the ill health of his family members, the latter in a fit of anger attacked him with a chopper.
Ajaya, seriously injured in the attack, was first rushed to the Kendrapara District Headquarters hospital but later shifted to S C B Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
He, however, died on the way to the hospital.
Surendra later surrendered before the Chaudakulat police outpost and handed over the blood-soaked chopper which he used in the crime.
