Nikkei rises as Advantest, Matsushita gain on Q1

Tokyo, July 27: The Nikkei average rose 0.9 percent on Thursday as Advantest Corp. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.

Ltd. rose on upbeat quarterly results announced the previous day.

Major companies to report April-June earnings later in the day include Sony Corp., NEC Corp., Fujitsu Ltd., Nikon Corp. and JFE Holdings Inc.

Canon Inc. is set to report half-year results. The Nikkei was up 134.25 points at 15,018.32 after moving in a narrow range in and out of positive territory. The TOPIX index rose 0.58 percent to 1,529.25.
