New Indo-Bangla trade corridors through Bengal

Kolkata, Jul 27: In a bid to boost bilateral trade with Bangladesh, state government has proposed to set up three corridors in West Bengal with an investment of Rs 80 crore.

Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on 'Role of PWD in infrastructure developmet of West Bengal,' state PWD minister Kshiti Goswami said,''A proposal in this regard has already been sent to Union Minister of Commerce Jairam Ramesh and the Union government has assured Central grant for this project.'' ''About 450 items are exported from India to Bangladesh. We have proposed to open up four corridors from various districts in the state,'' he said.

One corridor would be opened through Badu, Madhyamgram (North 24 Parganas) to Ghajadanga point near Bangladesh border. The second one would be through Changrabandha in Coochbehar district and the third in Phulbari near Siliguri, which would connect Nepal, Bangladesh and West Bengal.

''The fourth trade corridor can be in Mahadibpur in Malda which will connect Chapainababganj in Bangladesh,'' he added.
