Mumbai blasts: Muslim org gives memorandum to CM

Mumbai, July 26: Members of three Pan-India Muslim Organisations met Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today and apprised him of the growing fear and uneasiness in the community, because of being projected as anti-national elements in view of the July 11 serial blasts here.

Maulana Zahir Abbas Rizvi, President of 'Shia Personnel Law Board' (Maharashtra) told UNI that he along with New Delhi-based Maulana Mohammed Sajid Rashidi, President of 'Kul Hind Imam Association' and Maulana Sayed Ather Ali of Kwaja-Ulema council met the Chief Minister, and briefed him on problems being faced by the community in the aftermath of Mumbai blasts.

The Muslim leaders told Mr Deshmukh that in the guise of investigation, law enforcing agencies were rounding up ordinary Muslims in large numbers for random questioning, which has led to considerable anxiety and humiliation in the community.

Demanding an impartial probe, the minority leaders stressed that the government extend its investigations on the recent riots by the Shiv Sena activists. And inflamatory statements made by its Working President Uddav Thackeray in the wake of desecration of late Meenatai Thackeray's bust.

They also demanded that stringent action against individuals and organisations branding Muslims as traitors and terrorists and labelling 'madrasa' asbreeding grounds for fundamentalists.

Assuring the Chief Minister of complete cooperation in the investigation, Maulana Rizvi advocated caution so that innocent Muslims are not prosecuted wrongfully.
