Monsoon remains vigorous in Haryana, active in Punjab

Chandigarh, July 27 (UNI) Moderate to heavy rain pounded many areas in north-west India as monsoon remained vigorous in Haryana and active in Punjab during the past 24 hours, providing respite from hot and humid weather conditions in the region.

Widespread rain lashed Haryana since last night with Uchana in Jind district turning the wettest place in the state, recording 150 mm, followed by Gharonda in Karnal district registering 100 mm till 0830 hours.

Other towns in the state also received moderate to heavy rainfall.

Ghunoor in Sonepat district and Jind town recorded 89 mm each, Narwana 83 mm, Panipat 87 mm, Narnaul 51 mm, Faridabad 44 mm, Karnal 36.4 mm, Kaithal 43 mm, Hissar 19.3 mm, Nelokheri 11.2 mm and Ambala 5.8 mm.

Several areas in Punjab also experienced moderate rain as monsoon remained active in the state. Patiala with 64.0 mm rainfall turned out to be wettest place in the state while Ludhiana measured 18.2 mm and Amritsar 13.3 mm rain till this morning. Nanagal Dam site reported 1.2 mm rainfall.

Heavy rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, causing fresh landslides in interior areas of shimla and Kullu districts.

Landslides have also occured at some places on the Hindustan-Tibet Road. All rivers flowing through the state and their tributaries were in spate.

Dhundi recorded 67.8 mm rainfall, Pandoh 45.5 mm, Solang Nullah 39.0 mm Nagrota surian 29.6, Bhuntar 27.5 mm and Sundernagar 23.7 mm. Rampur, Suni, Kasol, Kahu, Guler, Gamroor, and Bharthin areas in the state also experienced rainfall.

Moderate rain lashed Shimla and its adjoining areas with the capital town recording 7.4 mm rainfall till this morning.

Rains also lashed Chandigarh and its adjoining areas since last night, dipping the temperature. The city recorded 3.1 mm rainfall till 0830 hours. Heavy rain pounded Delhi overnight, recording 103.4 mm till this morning.

Parts of Jammu and Kashmir also experienced monsoon showers. Jammu recorded 58.2 mm and Srinagar 1.4 mm rainfall.

The Met office predicted moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers at most places in Haryana and many places in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
