Mah Law Graduate Association against defending blast accused
Mumbai, July 26 (UNI) The Maharashtra Law Graduate Association, Honorary Secretary, Jaya Nair today stated that even if there was the slightest of evidence against an accused of any bomb blast, the legal fraternity should not defend them.
In view of the recent serial bomb blasts of 7/11, a news conference was organised by the Association in South Mumbai today.
Advocate Nair also said, ''Simply taking defence of saying that it is the right of the accused to be defended by a lawyer, seems to be thoroughly oppurtunistic in the sole temptation of accumulating unlawful wealth and fame.'' She further stated that the 'Fundamental Right to defence' should not be enforced at the cost of other innocent lives just as in the case of the recent bomb blast victims.
''Our efforts should be towrds changing the systems and age-old laws with the changing times as those that died were all innocent people and knew no recognition of religion,'' she added.
Ms Nair said laws like POTA should be revived as it was the only way for dealing with such terrorist activities.
