Landslide hurts 4: Heavy rains lash entire northern region
New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) A landslide at Sanjhi Chhat on the way to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir last night injured four devotees including a girl child as rains lashed the entire Northern region of the country overnight, plummeting the temperature below normal.
After the heaviest rainfall of the Monsoon season yesterday, the capital again experienced moderate rains bringing down mercury further but also causing waterlogging and traffic snags at many places. With today's rainfall, the capital has experienced more than 150 mm rainfall since Tuesday morning.
Fresh landslides occurred in interior areas of Shimla and Kullu districts and at some places on the Hindustan-Tibet Road. All rivers flowing through Himachal Pradesh and their tributaries were in spate.
With rains lashing the hills of the Himalayan Kingdom, in the next four days the water may reach Eastern UP areas. Thus, the Uttar Pradesh government has formed flood control committees in various districts.
Moderate to heavy rain pounded many areas in north-west India as monsoon remained vigorous in Haryana and active in Punjab during the past 24 hours, providing respite from hot and humid weather conditions in the region.
Manipur has also been experiencing heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours and a fall in the temperature was also seen.
In Andhra Pradesh, the skies opened up to heavy rainfall bringing cheers to farmers. The Met Department said the heavy rainfall was likely to continue for two more days with the possibility of a low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal. While the Telangana region experienced heavy showers, the coastal districts had light to moderate rainfall.
Heavy to very heavy rains have also occured at most places in west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, east Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Telangana, and at many places in east Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh and at few places in Orissa.
Major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Gomti, Ken, Rapti and Gandak were rising along their course, while Sharda at Paliakala was decreasing.
In Kerala, water levels in three major reservoirs have increased following heavy inflow.
Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in Sub-Himalayan, West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Rayalaseema, coastal and south interior Karnataka and at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and at a few places in Assam and Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, east Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch, Marathwada, north interior Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and at isolated places in west Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
In Kolkata, the weather seems to be playing hide and seek with clouds hovering around at one moment and disapperaing the next.
The state received negligble rainfall for the last few days but the people have welcomed the drop in humidity level in the state capital.
The weather also remained hot in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir because of above nomal day and night temperatures, where rain also could not bring any relief for the people.
