K'taka govt ready to take action against illegal arrack shops
Udupi, July 27 (UNI) Karnataka Medical Education Minister V S Acharya today said the government was ready to take severe action against illegal arrack shops, if all gram panchayats adopt resolutions in this regard and forward it to the administration.
Presiding over the valedictory function of 139th de-addiction camp by the Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) at Padubidre, about 25 km from here, he said the government could not fight alcoholism on its own and called upon people to create awareness about it through such de-addiction camps.
The camp was organised in association with other local groups, including the Jana Jagriti Vedike of Belthangady.
Later, talking to UNI, Vedike Assistant Resource Officer Thimmaiah Naika said his organisation had so far organised 78 such camps in undivided Dakshina Kannada district and treated over 8,000 addicts.
