KMU eyes 158 crore turnover
Vijayawada, July 27 (UNI) The Krishna Milk Union (KMU) has targetted to achieve a turnover of Rs 158 crore through sale of milk and other products in the current fiscal year, as against Rs 142 crore achieved during the last financial year.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Krishna district Milk Producers Cooperative Ltd Chairman, M Janakiramaiah and Managing Director, T Babu Rao said the KMU was procuring 1.40 lakh litres of milk every day. The procurement of milk was scaled down from two lakh litres to 1.40 lakh litres as adequate quantity of milk was not available in summer, he said. The KMU was exporting milk to Singapore, ghee to Dubai and cream to Arab countries, he added.
Mr.Rao said on August 2, two containers of UHT milk would be exported to Singapore. The milk containers would be sent to Chennai through trucks and from Chennai it would be shipped to Singapore, he said.
He said in October 2002 the KMU was awarded ISO:9001:2000 certification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), New Delhi for its quality management standard sytem. Since then the official delegation from DNV visited Vijayawada and thoroughly checked the KMU Vijaya brand products which were being exported to other countries.
Mr Janakiramiah said the Netherlands based certifying agency DNV awarded ISO 22000:2005 certification to KMU.
He said the KMU was the first dairy plant to receive the certificate in the country for its Food Safety Management System.
The standard and quality of the milk would be maintained in the next five years to keep the certificate intact, Janakiramiah added.
