JHRC opposes amendment in Right to Information bill
Jamshedpur, Jul 27(UNI) Jharkhand Human Rights Conference (JHRC) has strongly opposed the Union Cabinet's decision to amend the Right to Information bill and wrote a letter to the President to take cognition of the bill and return it to the cabinet for reconsideration.
JHRC president Manoj Mishra welcomed the noted social activist Anna Hazare's decision to return his Padmabhusan honour to protest the Centre's move to 'tamper' with the bill brought in October last year.
He said the JHRC extended solidarity to Mr Hazare's country-wide agitation beginning on August nine and observe the day by staging Satyagraha and fasting under the banner of JHRC here.
Mr Mishra said the bill was an instrument in the hands of common people to expose the 'real face' of the public representatives and bureaucratic red-tapism but it would become ineffective if it was amended.
He alleged that the government got scared of being exposed before the common people and decided to amend the bill in a hurry in this monsoon session.
''JHRC demands to withdraw the amendment immediately otherwise the Right to Information will reduce to be a mere formal one,'' Mr Mishra opined.
