Intel unveils 10 core 2 Duo processors
Bangalore, July 27: Intel Corporation today unveiled ten high power and energy-efficient Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors for consumers and business desktops, besides laptop PCs and workstations.
The new processors would reshape the performance of computers and transform the use of computers.
Unveiling the new processors, Intel Director (Digital Home Brand Management) Charlotte Lamprecht told newspersons here that ''the core 2 Duo processors are simply the best processors in the world.'' Not since the introduction of Pentium processor had the industry seen the heart of the computer reinvented like this, she said, adding that Pentium and Celeron chips would co-exist catering to different market segments.
Intel Managing Director for Sales and Marketing in South Asia Ramamurthy Sivakumar said the new processors were 40 per cent energy efficient, besides 40 per cent more powerful than the previous generation. It delivered the performance needed for the applications of today and tomorrow. It packed 291 milllion transistors.
Stating that the new generation processors had received widespread acclaim across the client base of Intel, Ms Lamprecht said more than 550 custom system designs were under way.
Using Intel's leading 65 nanometer silicon process technology, the new core 2 Duo processors were built in several of the world's most advanced high volume output manufacturing facilities. According to multiple independent review organisations, the processors won more than nine out of ten major servers, desktop PC and gaming PC performance benchmarks.
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor family consists of five desktop PC processors tailored for business, home and enthusiast users, such as high-end gamers, and five mobile PC processors designed to fit the needs of a mobile lifestyle. Intel Core 2 Duo processor based workstations would also deliver industry-leading performance for areas such as design, content creation and technical computing.
The processor family was based on the revolutionary Intel Core micro-architecture, designed to provide powerful yet energy- efficient performance. With the power of dual cores or computing engines, the processors could manage numerous tasks faster.
These dual core chips also improve tasks such as viewing and playing high definition video, protecting the PC and its assets during e-commerce transactions and enabling improved battery life for sleeker, lighter notebooks.
The new processors could be paired with the Intel 975X, 965 and mobile Intel 945 Express chipset family. Intel 965 Express Chipset included the latest integrated graphics and Intel clear video technology. All these chipsets were Microsoft Windows Vista Premium ready.
