HC asks BMC about action against defaulting contractors
Mumbai, July 26 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) what action it had taken against the defaulting contractors for remaining potholes on the city's roads.
A division bench comprising Justices R M Lodha and N H Patil, while hearing a Public Onterest Litigation (PIL) filed by Dr Sandeep Rane, demanded to know the kind of action the civic body had initiated against the defaulting contractors.
BMC counsel K K Singhvi told the court that 33 contractors had been penalised this year and a sum of Rs 5.4 lakh had been recovered by the BMC as fine.
To this, the court held that this was a very minor punishment and the sum collected was also very small. It asked him further as to what criminal action was taken against them.
The court was told that the BMC would consult their legal advisors and take further action.
