Govt to provide free power along with free colour Tvs
Chennai, July 27 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will provide free power along with free colour TV sets to the poor, Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy told the State Assembly today.
Intervening in a discussion on the state budget for the year 2006-2007, he said the Government was already supplying free power to huts for use of a single lamp.
Along with the distribution of colour TV sets, the required power would also be supplied to the poor free of cost, he added.
Earlier participating in the discussion, Mr V P Kalairajan (AIADMK) said the DMK Government, after promising colour TV for all households, had now announced that the scheme was only for those who did not have television sets.
He wanted to know whether the Government would also come forward to supply free power to huts to enable the poor to watch the TV.
Stating that the Government was not bothered about Indian fishermen who were being targeted by the Sri Lankan Navy on the sea, Mr Kalairajan urged the Government to take steps to retrieve the 'Katchatheevu' island from Sri Lanka by exerting pressure on the Centre.
