Govt employee sentenced to life for murder

Barrackpore, Jul 27: An Additional district and sessions court today sentenced a 35-year old government employee to life imprisonment for killing a house-wife in October 2000.

Judge of the fast track court Santanu Roy convicted Rajat Subhra Bhattacharya, an employee of West Bengal Small Industries Corporation, for kidnapping and killing 22-year old Dulali Majumder of Durganagar under Dum Dum police station in North 24 Parganas.

A fine of Rs 2000 or an additional imprisonment of 6 months was also imposed under section 302 IPC and 364 IPC.

Special public prosecutor Sushil Chakrabarty said she was murdered at Barrackpore under Titagarh police station.

However, Rajat's parents who were accused in the murder case, were acquitted, Mr Chakrabarty said.
