Foundation stone laid for Instrumentation Radar Centre
Visakhapatnam, July 27 (UNI) Distinguished scientist and Chief Controller Research Development at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) A Sivathanu Pillai today laid the foundation stone for Instrumentation Radar Centre (IRC), here.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone, he said the facility was the first of its kind in the country.
He said the Naval Research and Development Organisation (NSTL) has embarked on an Integrated Stealth Technology Programme (INSTEP).
As part of the programme, NSTL has developed hardware, software and stealth materials. The hardware has been inducted on first class stealthship, the ''INS Shivalik''.
NSTL Director Dr V Bhujanga Rao said that the IRC would fulfill long cherished dream of NSTL.
He said as ships face the threat of missle attack during hostilities, the advanced facility for measuring the radar signature of ships was being established in Dolphin hills.
The radar covers a wide frequency range of naval interests. NSTL scientists were well trained to analyse and interpret the snap-shot signatures of ships.
