Farmers cheer as skies open up in AP

Hyderabad, July 27 (UNI) Within hours of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy expressing concern over monsoon failure, the skies opened up to heavy rainfall last night bringing cheers to farmers.

The Met Department said the heavy rainfall was likely to continue for two more days with the possibility of a low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal.

While the Telangana region experienced heavy showers, the coastal districts had light to moderate rainfall.

Bodhan in Nizamabad District recorded the maximum rainfall of 15 cm followed by Hyderabad (10.68), Vizianagaram (9), Mudhol and Narayankhed (8) and Banswada and Veeraghattam (7).

A report from Machilipatnam said the entire Krishna District barring Uguntur received a total of 1185 mm in the last 24 hours ending 0830 hrs this morning.

Collectorate sources said the highest rainfall of 144 mm was recorded at Pamidimukkala followed by Machilipatnam (88), Totlavalluru (62), Chandarlapadu (53), Vuyyuru (52), Nandigama (43) and Gudur (32).
