'Facelift for state's communication network'
Kolkata, Jul 27: The West Bengal government has drawn up an action plan to give a facelift to the communication network of the state with plans to build a new expressway from south to northern part of the city and a ring road in BBD Bagh area.
''The new eastern expressway will connect Diamond Harbour in the southern part of the city to Rajarhat in the eastern fringe of Kolkata, touching Barasat highway,'' PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami said here today at the sidelines of a seminar organised by Merchant Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Goswami said that private company CES has completed a primary survey and the project is awaiting the state government's nod.
The state government has planned to built a ring road in Princep ghat area and beautification of BBD Bagh area would also be taken up, he added. An underground parking facility 'Parkomat' would also be constructed in the BBD Bagh area.
''We will also revamp the 23 existing overbridges of the city and built new flyovers in Birati and Madhyamgram,'' Mr Goswami said.
Talking about the proposed bridge across Ganges from Kukrahati to Raichak, thye PWD Minister said that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), an aid implementation agency, which provides technical assitance, has already started a feasibility study of this project. A primary report would be submitted in December.
