Dalit Christians to launch nation-wide stir in August
New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) The National Council of Dalit Christians (NCDC) today announced that it will launch a nation-wide campaign from August to press for their demand of reservation and other scheduled caste privileges for the community.
NCDC National Convener V J George said the Congress-led UPA had so far not taken a clear political position on the issue.
He said like dalit Sikhs and Buddhists, the community must also be included in the list of scheduled castes.
''The Dalit Christians also suffered untouchability along with other Dalits,'' he added.
''Since the UPA Government came to power, all its allies agreed that Dalit Christians are a major human rights issue and has to be resolved by bringing proper legislation,'' he said.
