CWDT reserves orders on Cauvery dispute

New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) today reserved its order in respect of report/decision under section 5(2) of the Inter-State Water Disputes Act 1956.

In its order signed by Chairman Justice N P Singh and Members N S Rao and Mr Sudhir Narain, the tribunal observed that the arguments were concluded on April 21 2006.

The CWDT's order reserving its verdict comes in the wake of split decisions by the Chairman and the two Members of the Tribunal about taking the reports of Assessors on the record and pass an order.

Justice Singh contends that there is no Assessors' report in the Tribunal while the Members assert otherwise leading to a situation confrontation in the open court.

The CWDT order assumes importance as the Tribunal's term comes to an end on August six and the expectation is that the term is being extended by another six months on the Tribunal's request.
