CRPF to have own intelligence

Kolkata, Jul 27 (UNI) Seeking to have a cutting edge in operation, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is poised to have its own intelligence wing shortly.

''We are going to have our own intelligence wing. This will provide us a cutting edge,'' CRPF Additional Director General N R Das told a news conference today on occasion of the 67th foundation day of the force.

At present the CRPF has only field level intelligence.

As part of the drive for improving capabilities, the jawans of the force were being given training in jungle warfare at Silchar in Assam and Sarhan in Himachal Pradesh. The fire power of CRPF had also been increased with the induction of weapons like INSAS rifles, three inch mortars and LMGs, he said.

For better networking, cell phones had been provided up to the company level, Mr Das said adding the force was on the course of updating itself further in terms of both fire power and communication system.
