CM assures action on Sadasiva Commission Report

Chennai, July 27 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today told the State Assembly that all efforts would be made to implement the Justice Sadasiva Commission recommendations, which probed into the alleged atrocities committed by the STF during the combing operations to nab forest brigand Veerappan.

Responding to Ms Padmavathy and Mr Sivapunniyam (both CPI), he said he would hold discussions with the authorities on how to implement them and on the aspects of providing financial assistance to the affected women.

The government would certainly take all efforts to implement the recommendations, he added.

Earlier, participating in the debate on the budget, Ms Padmavathy recalled the alleged atrocities and the human right violations committed by the STF during the Veerappan operations.

She urged the government to provide financial assistance to the victims and rehabilitate them as recommended by the commission.

Demanding stringent action against the STF personnel as recommended by the Commission, she said the tribal women in the Sathyamangalam forest areas were subjected to untold misery, which could not be explained in the House.

''They have suffered mental and physical tortures at the hands of the STF'', she said and urged Mr Karunanidhi to render justice.

Mr Sivapunniyam urged the Chief Minister to make an announcement in the present session of the Assembly on providing relief to the victims.

To this, Mr Karunanidhi said their views were acceptable and the government would make efforts to implement the recommendations.
