CEC visits UP tomorrow to review poll preparation

Lucknow, July 27 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalswamy will pay a day-long visit here tomorrow to review preparations for Uttar Pradesh assembly poll's slated early next year.

The CEC would discuss the issue of electoral rolls with divisional commissioners and senior state officials.

State electoral office sources said Mr Gopalswamy is also likely to meet chief secretary N C Bajpayee during his visit.

Representatives of prominent political parties are also expected to call upon the CEC and apprise him of their views on electoral rolls and other issues.

State chief electoral officer (CEO) Anuj Kumar Vishnoi said here Mr Gopalswamy would take note of complaints and irregularities detected in electoral rolls during the meeting.

This would be the first visit of the CEC to the state to take stock of preparations for the ''free and fair'' conduct of the assembly polls.
