Cabinet decides quality specifications for import of wheat
New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) In a bid to improve the availability of wheat and control wheat prices, the Centre today decided to give its approval for applying the same relaxed standards of quality and phytosanitary specifications as applicable to wheat import by public sector to the proposed scheme of wheat import under open general licence (OGL) till December this year .
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet here tonight.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons after the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that the decision would enable all importers, both in the private and public sector to import wheat at competitive prices.
