BSF men injured in mob violence
Barasat, July 27 (UNI) At least three Border Security Force personnel, including the commandant of the 9th Bn, were injured at the hands of a mob on the Taki Road at Golabari under Barasat police station in North 24 Parganas last night.
BSF had fired four rounds in air to thwart a mob attack. Police arrested at least 9 persons so far in this connection.
The incident took place when commandant Azad Singh Malik along with a few BSF men apprehended a Basirhat bound truck laden with cattle to prevent smuggling.
The Commandant was returning from Hasnabad to his Battalion headquarters at Dakshineshwar.
As BSF men cordoned the truck with cattle, some local people raised objection and also raised an alarm that provoked more than an hundred people to attack the out numbered BSF men. Miscreants pelted stones and assaulted BSF men.
Soon police intervened and seized the truck but failed to seize the cattle as the local people took them away in dark, police said.
As tension prevailed in the area, special force was deployed to maintain law and order, police said.
