Broke Windies board banks on World Cup to get out of red
Georgetown, Guyana, July 27 (UNI) The bankrupt WICB is banking on the proposed India-West Indies series in the United States besides the ICC World Cup next year to get out of its financial blues.
According to WICB president Ken Gordon, the board will take a number of measures to be back in black.
''World Cup 2007 is not the only saviour for the WICB. It is one of the things if, once successful, will make a great impact,'' Gordon was quoted as saying in Stabroek News.
Besides that World Cup, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has its eyes set on the proposed series of matches between India and West Indies to be played in the US and an official announcement in this regard would be made shortly, according to Mr Gordon.
He said the WICB had lost 6.5 million dollars for the financial year 2004-2005 but for this current year the WICB was well past the halfway mark and expects to break even.
