BJP to knock the doors of HC to restore justice to M'wada

Aurangabad, July 27 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde today alleged that the Democratic Front (DF) government has favoured Vidarbha region and sidelined Marathwada while announcing the package for farmers and threatened to file a petition before the Aurangabad division bench of Bombay High Court on the issue soon.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Munde accused the government for preventing police in Marathwada from registering the cases of suicides at the police stations.

The former Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister further alleged that despite the DF government's instruction to the police, the Marathwada region had recorded 257 cases of farmers suicides and the government did not find it important to offer similar treatment that was given to the Vidarbha region of the state.

It may recalled here that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in his recent visit to Nagpur had announced a relief package of Rs 37.50 billion which included provision for improving irrigation infrastructure, waiving off interest payment on loans and making credit available to farmers on easy terms.

Mr Munde pointed out that injustice was meted out by the Centre and State government inspite of the fact that Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, himself belongs to the Marathwada region.

The BJP leader in the Legislative Assembly said that the opposition parties have already raised the issue before the Assembly and now has decided to file a petition before the Aurangabad division bench of the Bombay High Court soon.

According to him, all the necessary documents will be gathered within next few days and the petition will be submitted within a period of a fortnight.

The BJP leader who hails from Beed district of the Marathwada pointed out that the region comprising of eight districts was on the verge of a total drought, due to 50 per cent less rainfall than the average rainfall the region received in the last year.

According to him, his home district Beed had lowest rainfall.

Except, Aurangabad district, kharif crop standing in the field was likely to be affected badly, if the region fails to receive rainfall in the near future.
