Bihar govt requests Centre to repair Mahatma Gandhi bridge
Patna, Jul 27 (UNI) Concerned about the dangerous condition of Mahatma Gandhi bridge, Bihar government today requested the Centre to repair it.
Bihar Road Construction Minister Nandkishore Yadav told mediapersons here that the bridge over river Ganga, which connects North Bihar with the rest of the state, should be immediately repaired.
He admitted that the Up-stream of the bridge was in dangerous condition and travelling on it was risky.
Mr Yadav said he was not satisfied with the repair work on the bridge taken up so far.
He said it was difficult to repair it without the help of the technocrats.
Mr Yadav said that he had requested the Centre to appoint an international consultant through global tender, who should be entrusted with the responsibility to submit a detailed report on the condition of the bridge adding the Centre should implement the report to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
He said the state government was simultaneously working on the alternatives for connecting North Bihar with the rest of the state.
Two new bridges would also be constructed over river Ganga, one from Ara to Chapra and the another from Bakhtiyarpur to Mahnar.
The department is conducting a survey and once the feasibility report is submitted, the construction process would start.
