Bandh against dam construction from tonight

Imphal, Jul 27: The Action Committee against Tipaimukh Dam Project (ACTIP) has announced to go ahead with the proposed 24-hour strike against the Tipaimukh dam construction.

The bandh will begin at 6 pm today and continue till 6 pm tomorrow.

The ACTIP has alleged that many vital and contentious points have been deliberately ignored on Tipaimukh Dam issue by both the Government of Manipur (GoM) and North East Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO), which will take up the project.

The Committee further alleged that the Tipaimukh dam project will have installed capacity of 1500 MW while the firm power will be around 416 MW only. About 293.56 sq. km area will be submerged and 105 villages submerged and about 8000 hectares of cultivable land will be submerged while 178.21 sq. km of land will be submerged.

About 7,251.36 sq. km of forest land will be affectedly indirectly.
