AP Govt accords priority for medical and health sector:Cong
Hyderabad, July 27 (UNI) Congress spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy today said the Andhra Pradesh Government was according priority for medical and health sector in the state.
In a statement here, he said the government had introduced "Health Insurance" for the first time in the state and provided a budgetary allocation of Rs 20 crore.
The Government had also provided medical treatment to 3839 children suffering from heart ailments by spending an amount of Rs 7.4 crore during 2005-06, he said adding that an allocation of Rs 8 crore was made in the budget for the current year for this purpose.
The Government had provided Rs 2,113 crore for the medical sector in the budget for the current year with a view to providing best medical facilities to the people .
Ridiculing the demand of the Opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) leaders for declaring ''Health Emergency'' in the state in view of Chikungunya, he asked why the TDP government during its regime had not declared 'Health Emergency' when 72 people died due to Japanese encephalitis in 2000.
Stating that the State Government had taken all necessary steps to control Chikungunya, he said the government had organised 6832 medical camps and distributed Homoeopathy medicines to the affected people in the state.
