Amarinder for joint action for natural calamities

Chandigarh, July 27: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has called upon the Civil and Army authorities to embark upon an ambitious joint action plan to combat any sort of eventuality arising out of the natural calamities in the state.

Presiding over the meeting yesterday regarding raising of EcologicalBattalion of Territorial Army in Punjab, Capt Singh asked both the Civil and Army authorities to work out modalities in accordance with the disaster management plan of the state.

He said the Punjab government had already set up a state disaster management authority on the lines of National Disaster Management Authority as per the guidelines of central Government to equip the civil and police administration to take appropriate measures to control and minimize the loss caused to life and property due to the onslaught of these natural calamities in the form of earthquake, tsunami cyclone, flash floods or some other hazardous industrial accidents.

The Chief Minister reiterated his firm resolve that the effective steps would be taken to implement the disaster management in real terms so that thousands and lakhs of precious human lives could be saved in the wake of these natural calamities.
