UP also need special package to check farmers suicide: SP
New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) Mr Ramjilal Suman (SP) today demanded in the Lok Sabha a special package for the farmers of Uttar Pradesh to prevent suicide among them.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr Suman said the farmers in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh were the worst affected.
Various steps announced by the Centre for the welfare of farmers had proved to be inadequate as suicide cases were being reported even from highly productive states of Punjab and Haryana, he said.
Special financial packages, on the lines of the Rs 3,750 crore announced recently by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra, were needed for other states as well, he contended.
Mr Chandrakant Khaire (SS) sought waiver of electricity bills and loans of the families whose members committed suicide in Maharashtra.
