Unspent MPLADS funds stood at Rs 1933.07 cr on March 31

New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) As on March 31 this year, the unspent funds from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) stood at Rs 1933.07 crore with Uttar Pradesh topping the list at Rs 269.12 crore, the Lok Sabha was told today.

In a written reply Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G K Vasan informed the lower House that the unexpended balance of Madhya Pradesh was Rs 184.17 crore, Assam Rs 183.56 crore, West Bengal Rs 147.34 crore and Andhra Pradesh Rs 129.02 crore.

The unspent balance of Gujarat was Rs 86.83 crore, Karnataka Rs 78.91 crore, Kerala Rs 96.31 crore, Punjab Rs 60 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 63.67 crore, Delhi Rs 39.55 crore and Jharkhand Rs 55.58 crore.

The Minister said there was a demand for review of MPLADS fund and increase of the annual grant under the scheme. However, the allocation of funds at present in the Budget for 2006-07 is Rs 2 crore per MP.

Funds in the MPLADS scheme are non-lapsable. Funds left in the district can be carried forward for utilisation in subsequent years.

The balance of MPLADS funds are passed on and distributed as per the pattern stipulated in the guidlines.
