'TN giving priority to promotion of tourism'

Chennai, July 26: The Tamil Nadu Government is according priority for promotion of tourism in the state in order to tap the huge potential in the hospitality sector, Tourism Minister N Suresh Rajan said.

Inaugurating a seminar on promotion of tourism friendly culture in the state last night, he said studies on tourism revealed that with little investment and more inclination, tourism could bring more revenue and employment than other sectors like agriculture and manufacturing.

The unique feature of tourism was that unlike other industries, it was a highly-coordinated activity in which all stakeholders play their role in a dedicated manner, he said, adding one of the important component of tourism was ''tourist-friendliness.'' ''Since Tamil Nadu was known for its hospitality, culture and helping attitude to guests, ''all we have to do is to fine tune our existing potential into performance. The travel and hospitality sector, taxi drivers, auto drivers, guides, shopkeepers and traffic police must play a vital role,'' he added.
