Thousands of assesees file returns in post offices across India
New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) For the first time ever, thousands of income tax assessees across the country today filed their returns in 2000 designated post offices in all states and union territories.
As many as 17 post offices in the national capital received the return forms with Parliament Street post office alone getting 340.
With the last date of filing returns for individuals and Hindu Undivided Family being July 31, the Income Tax Department had yesterday, announced that designated post offices would receive returns from today onwards on all working days.
To file through a post office, the returns had to be prepared in duplicate and one copy had to be submitted in an unsealed envelope, preferably 10 x 12 inch. The assessees were required to write on the envelope their PAN number, name, address, assessment year and ward/circle where they were assessed.
The post offices were giving a acknowledgement stamp on the second copy.
