PWD assn members arrested in Pondy

Pondicherry, Jul 26 (UNI) About 250 members of the joint action committee of all PWD Association were arrested when they took out a procession to picket the Chief Secretariate here to press their demands.

Demanding that pension be provided to all regularised staffs of the department, among other things, they were stopped by the police at the Ambur Salai and arrested.

In another stir, employees of the horticulture wing of the agriculture department here assembled at the botanical garden, demanding regularisation of their service.

Police held talks with the protestors and asked them to disperse.

Meanwhile, members of the Pondicherry State Nurses Association staged a dharna in front of the Legislative Assembly, demanding that a post of women health supervisor in the health department be created.
