Altaf Ahmed (45), resident of Seelampur, was arrested from South Extension-I yesterday, according to the police.
Rs 20 lakh cash, the entire amount the jeweller was duped of, was recovered from them.
During interrogation, he told the police that he along with gang leader Muzaffar Nagar resident Mustkeen and one Akram of Dasna cheated Vinay Mehra of 'Mehrasons' in Connaught Place by supplying him five kilograms of brass instead of gold.
They had dressed up as villagers of Haryana, talked innocently and took the victim into confidence before landing at his G K residence for selling the 'gold' which was infact brass powder.
Police said 'Tatlu Kaatna' was an art practised by cheats from Mewat and Muzaffar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, where they pretend as innocent people with rural background in need of money. They also carried real gold dust to ensure the swift sale of the ornaments.
