Mirror magic for science museum in Asom
Guwahati, Jul 26: If you thought the 'miracles' of the mirror were limited to the one owned by Snow-white's step-mother, the Regional Science Centre (RSC) at Guwahati has a surprise for you in stock.
The RSC is all set to open a new gallery, 'Mirror Magic Gallery', shortly, built on the lines of the Science City, Kolkata.
RSC in-charge Ramendra Medhi informed that the Mirror Magic Gallery would feature exhibits like honeycombs, triangular matrices, a bottomless well and a maze, 'Bhul Bhullaia', comprising a forest-like structure.
''The basic idea of the RSC is to mingle the laws of physics with the idea of entertainment,'' said Mr Medhi.
The Gallery would be the fourth new addition to the RSC in the recent times.
Earlier, an aquarium gallery with a capacity of 16 tanks, holding exotic Piranhas, Tiger sharks, Angels, Albino sharks and African Knife fish, was opened in May. The gallery also holds a video show featuring the life cycle of fish and programmes that showed exotic fishes from foreign lands.
The RSC is the first of the 28 science museums in the country, under the Union Ministry of Culture, to boast of a 'Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Garden', where 80 species of medicinal plants are being reared.
The garden has been built in such a way as to help blind people navigate their way through it. Special pathways with pebbled stoppages and special features about the plants written in Braille have been made especially for the blind visitors.
Other new additions to the RSC include a Prehistoric Life Park featuring 43 scaled-down models of animals depicting the history of evolution of life on earth, a butterfly garden where the entire breeding process of butterflies was being done in a specially constructed house and a 'Garden of Fame', featuring bronze busts of eight famous scientists of India, including J C Bose, Srinivas Ramanujan, Vikram Sarabhai, C V Raman and H J Bhabha.
