Meghalaya govt seals food industry for adulteration
Shillong, Jul 26 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has sealed Meghalaya Fusion Limited for adulterating ready-to-eat meal for children and nursing mothers.
The Meghalaya Fusion Limited, authorised to be the sole supplier of ready-to-eat meal to Anganwadi centres in the state for the past few years, had been indulging in adulteration thereby making huge profit ranging from Rs 16 to Rs 18 crore.
'' We have directed the state government to seal the industry after the seized food packets were tested to be adulterated sans any wheat and Bengal grams, '' Chief Minister J D Rymbai told reporters here today.
As per the agreement, Mr Rymbai said the Meghalaya Fusion Limited was to supply wheat and Bengal grams to Anganwadi Centres for distribution to nursing mothers and children from 0- 3 years in the state.
However, he said the food company supplied only corn flour thereby defeating the very purpose of supplementary nutrition scheme of the Social Welfare department.
Mr Rymbai said police had also seized 200 bags of maize from the industry.
Meanwhile, the state police has registered a case under section 420 IPC, 272 IPC with Food Adulteration Act, 1954.
