Sara Sahara complex: MCOCA court reserves order

Mumbai, July 26: Maharashtra Control of Organised crime act (MCOCA) court today reserved its order till tomorrow in an application filed by one of the accused in the Sara Sahara complex case praying that the complex was part of the evidence in the case, hence it should not be demolished.

Court judge M R Bhatkar today decided to visit the illegal Sara Sahara Complex to record the evidence along with defence counsel and prosecutor.

Advocate Srikant Shivade moved the application on behalf of one of the accused and builder of the complex Abdul Rahman before MCOCA judge M R Bhatkar yesterday in this regard.

Apex court had recently upheld the Bombay High Court's order directing the demolition of the structures. However, the demolition originally kept for July 12 was postponed by the BMC for lack of security personnel to assist them as the security personnel were busy with the serial bomb blasts of July 11.

Mumbai Police had booked Dawood's youngest brother Iqbal Kaskar and eight others including BMC officials under stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act for the illegal construction of Sara and Sahara complex in Crawford Market area which belonged to the Central Public Works Department.

The trial of the case was under progress before the MCOCA judge M R Bhatkar on a day-to-day basis and recorded the statement of 32 witnesses so far.
