Madhani moves HC seeking release on bail
Chennai, July 26 (UNI) People's Democratic Party leader Abdul Nazer Madhani, lodged in Coimbatore prison after his arrest in connection with 1998 serial blasts in the town, today moved Madras High court, seeking release on bail.
Madhani, who was arrested soon after the serial blasts, which rocked the textile town, prior to the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, sought bail on medical grounds and the petition is likely to come up for hearing before Mr Justice K N Basha tomorrow.
In his bail petition, Madhani submitted that the ayurvedic treatment, provided to him in the prison was not sufficient to restore his health condition.
He was advised to get special treatment, which was available only in Ayurvedic hospitals and only if he was released on bail, he could avail the speciality treatment.
Madhani, who had an artificial limb, said that he was facing problems in the limb and he was required to visit the Artificial Limb Centre for treatment, otherwise it would pose serious problems to his life. Attempts by doctors in the prison to treat the limb had failed, he pointed out.
His release on bail would not prejudice the prosecution case and he would not tamper with the investigation, he added.
