Large number of accidents in MP Discoms- report

Bhopal, July 26(UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has expressed its concern over large number of accidents involving departmental staff as well as outsiders in the power distribution companies in the state.

The commission has drawn the attention of the top management of distribution companies (Discoms) and suggested to take effective steps to reduce accidents, said the commission's report for 2005-06 presented in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly yesterday.

During the last three years, the report said, a total of 2774 accidents, including 1407 fatal, were reported. As many as 1154 outsiders were involved in the fatal accidents.

Among three Discoms, highest 1055 accidents were reported in the Eastern Region Discom, followed by 895 in Western Region Discom and 824 in Central Region Discom.

There is marginal decrease in accidents over the years with a total of 949 accidents reported in 2003-04, followed by 943 next year and 882 in 2005-06, the report added.
