Jordanian plane lands in Beirut to evacuate wounded
BEIRUT, July 26 (Reuters) A Jordanian military plane landed at Beirut's international airport today to evacuate people seriously wounded in the 15-day-old war between Israel and Hizbollah.
Airport officials said the aircraft is the first jet to land at Beirut's airport since July 13 when Israeli warplanes bombed its runways and forced it to close. Subsequent strikes on the facility damaged fuel tanks and other installations.
The conflict has killed 418 people in Lebanon and wounded more than 2,000. It was not known how many wounded the Jordanian plane would evacuate.
Israel said yesterday it would allow planes carrying humanitarian aid to land in Beirut. Jordan has a piece treaty with Israel.
