Italy for increased presence in Bengal business
Kolkata, Jul 26 (UNI) Work for a solid waste management and infrastructure development project is expected to start shortly in Kolkata with Italian assistance.
Italian Consul General Augustion Pinna said here today that tender for the 26 million dollar project, to be implemented by Italian company Magaldi would be floated very soon.
"The project is ready to start and it is expected to attract good companies to set up their units,", he said while addressing members of Confederation of Indian Industry(ER) during an interaction.
The Italian government has given the loan at zero per cent interest.
Speaking on the increasing Indo-Italian operations in business,Mr Pinna said last year Italian trade with India had increased by 80 per cent. "In Italy the potential of Indian economy is being recognised more than ever before and we are looking for participation in various fields, including chemicals, leather and machine tools.
The Italian government had also signed an agreement with Indian Council of Leather for setting up of a training centre at the Bantala leather complex while it had agreed to provide high technology for the upgradation of Durgapur Steel Plant, he said.
Mr Pinna said a couple of Italian comapanies were likely to set up food processing units in North Bengal this year with an investment of 16 million euros.
