Initiatives to globalise Company Secretary: ICSI
Kochi, Jul 26: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has initiated a slew of programmes to globalise the profession of Company Secretary and expand the student base in the country.
Talking to reporters here today, President of the ICSI H M Choraria said, '' The institute has approached the Union Commerce Ministry to agitate at the WTO forum for the inclusion of a new head for Corporate Governance and Company Secretarial services under the Services Sectoral Classification List of the world body.'' The institute has also sought support from parallel institutes in various countries to fructify at the WTO forum, he added.
As the role of the ICSI in the global Company Secretaries profession is pertinent, the insititute alongwith the institutes in Bangladesh, Kenya and Pakistan took the lead to constitute International Federation of Company Secretaries, Mr Choraria said.
The institute is also in the process of signing MoUs with institutes abroad to provide more opportunity for members of the ICSI, he added.
In a bid to expand the student base for the company secretary course, the institute has taken e-learning initiatives whereby students can learn through virtual classrooms, he added.
The institute is also considering to revise the syllabus to include new challenges in the corporate environment as it is witnessing cross-border mergers, amalgamations and takeovers, he added.
